Girls on the Move 2020: Breaking down barriers for Girls in Aviation & Aerospace

Gloucester – 2 March 2020

Airbus Safran

What is our vision for the event ?

Safran Landing Systems UK in Gloucester will be inviting local female students to site to engage them into considering the career opportunities available to them within Aviation & Aerospace, and, Safran Group. The event is detailed below :

Introduction to Safran :

  • Introduction to Safran Group in the UK
  • What does it take to be successful at Safran ?
  • What do we do at Safran Landing Systems ?
  • This will be supported through Q&A with our female employees and the Airbus Landing Gear Program Director.

Site Tour :

  • A tour of the SLS UK Glos site to educate the students on the full life cycle of a Landing Gear.
  • Q&A with the tour lead

STEM-related Challenges :

  • Marshmallow Challenge - The students will be split into teams and are challenged to build the tallest tower from a limited amount of materials. This includes ; 1 metre of string and tape, 20 sticks of spaghetti and 1 marshmallow for the top of the tower once constructed. The tallest tower still standing after a specified amount of time, wins !
  • Mini Landing Gear Time Challenge - Who can build our mini landing gears in the quickest amount of time ? The students will be split into teams to build the landing gear, using the materials provided, this will engage them to think about the lifecycle of the landing gear from their site tour and which parts are required to build the LGs.

End of the event :

  • Goodie Bags for all participants
  • Education on the entry level roles available to them at Safran Landing Systems in Gloucester, and the different routes for them to get there.

Hopefully, this event will help us to engage and excite young talented students into considering a career in aviation and aerospace, particularly within Safran Group !
